The main city of western Madagascar and the country's second largest port‚ Majunga is naturally open to trade with the neighboring Comoros archipelago (Mayotte is only 350 km away!) and the East African region. Renowned for its port dhows‚ these traditional sailing boats‚ Majunga is also a hot spot for seaside tourism for both the local population and tourists‚ especially those of the neighboring islands of Comoros‚ Mayotte and Reunion.

Majunga's main tourist attractions are the presence of natural parks‚ geological and historical curiosities such as the Red Circus‚ the Anjohibé cave or the Majungasaurus fossils (endemic dinosaur species)‚ to which are added a preserved coastline.
